Untitled (Egg) | 2021

This ongoing project showcases the artist's photographic work and challenges the idea of self-portraits. These photographs are taken through an elliptical mirrored dome structure that originates from the cover of a desk hoover. Utilising the unique fish-eye reflection, the artist documents himself inside his everchanging surroundings and proposes a more abstract method of street photography.

Another point of interest is the spherical aberration being created due to the curved reflective surface. Light rays that hit the mirror closer to the centre will converge at a different focal point compared to rays that diverge near the outer edges. This effect will then be perceived as distorted by the human eye, typically embodied as the stretching or compression of the objects. It is this contrast between the known reality in the centre and the foreign and distorted on the outer that intrigues the artist.
